Daslav Hranueli

Professor Daslav Hranueli is Scientific Director of SemGen and the Full Professor at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb, leading the Section for bioinformatics. Prof. Hranueli worked for many years in the pharmaceutical industry (PLIVA Inc., Research Institute) before returning to academia to continue his research career in the fields of bacterial molecular biology and bioinformatics. Prof. Hranueli's main research interest is in the field of the genetics of Gram-positive bacteria (mainly Streptomyces and Bacillus), their genome structure, the genetics of industrial enzyme and antibiotic biosynthesis and their bioinformatics. Particularly, the studies of Streptomyces species genome structure and genetic instability have resulted in articles in a number of high profile journals. In his professional capacity, Prof. Hranueli today acts, as a Croatian delegate to the International Commission for the Genetics of Industrial Microorganisms. He is a member of the American Academy of Microbiology, the Croatian Academy of Engineering and of the Editorial Board of the journal Food Technology and Biotechnology.
